Learn to Maintain Your Firearm and Make Safe Handling Second Nature
Maintenance and Muscle Memory builds on the skills introduced during Foundations and Comfort.
This class combines two important parts of responsible handgun ownership: proper firearm maintenance and repeated hands-on practice.
Students learn how to care for their handgun while continuing to practice the physical skills required to operate it safely and confidently. Repetition is an important part of firearms training. The more consistently students perform proper techniques, the more familiar and natural those movements become.
Firearm Maintenance Topics May Include:
Understanding why routine firearm maintenance is important
Basic handgun inspection
Safely preparing a firearm for cleaning
Basic field stripping and disassembly
Identifying major internal components
Proper cleaning techniques
Cleaning the barrel, slide, frame, and other components
Basic lubrication
Understanding the difference between cleaning and over-lubricating
Reassembling the firearm correctly
Performing a basic function check after reassembly
Identifying common signs of excessive wear or potential maintenance concerns
Proper firearm storage and ongoing care
Muscle Memory and Manipulation Practice May Include:
Reinforcing safe muzzle and trigger-finger discipline
Repeating proper grip and stance
Magazine insertion and removal
Loading and unloading procedures
Slide manipulation
Establishing a consistent shooting position
Presenting the handgun safely and consistently
Sight alignment and sight picture
Trigger-control fundamentals
Building consistency through repetition
Practicing the sequence of skills students will use during live-fire training
The goal is not simply to memorize individual steps. Students begin connecting those skills together so they can operate their firearm more comfortably, consistently, and safely.
By the End of This Class
Students should have a better understanding of how to properly maintain their handgun and should demonstrate greater confidence and consistency with the firearm manipulations introduced throughout Journey Academy.
This class is designed to prepare students for the final portion of the program:

The Journey Academy Training Path Class 1 - Foundations and Comfort Learn firearm safety, handgun operation, proper handling, and the fundamental skills needed to become comfortable with a pistol. Class 2 - Maintenance and Muscle Memory Learn how to properly maintain your handgun while using repetition to strengthen safe firearm manipulation and build consistency. Class 3 - Pistol 1 Live Fire Course Take the skills learned during the first two classes to the range and apply them through supervised, instructor-led live-fire training. Three Classes. One Progressive Training Path. Journey Academy is designed to take students from simply owning or being interested in a handgun to becoming safer, more knowledgeable, and more confident in their ability to handle and operate one.
Our focus is a strong foundation: understanding your responsibilities, asking good questions, and learning in a supportive environment.
Students should bring: Your Journey Academy workbook from Class 1. Your personal firearm, if you own one. Class 2 gives students an opportunity to continue becoming familiar with the operation, maintenance, and handling of their own handgun. Still do not own a firearm? No problem. Owning a firearm is not required to continue the program. We have firearms available for students to train with during class, so you can continue building your skills before deciding which firearm is right for you.
Completion of Class 1: Foundations and Comfort is required before attending Class 2. Students should already have a basic understanding of firearm safety, handgun operation, and safe handling techniques before moving into Maintenance and Muscle Memory.
Confirm your date, location, and preparation instructions with the training team before attending.
