The Renewal Combination pairs security officer in-service training with handgun retraining for eligible armed security personnel. It addresses two different training obligations: continuing education for the security officer registration and annual retraining for the handgun firearms endorsement.
01I — Security Officer In-Service: 4 hours of job-related instruction. The published minimum standards for in-person 01I do not specify a separate mandatory written final examination or statewide passing percentage. Any additional school assessment follows the approved course requirements. No range qualification is included in 01I.
07R — Handgun Retraining: 4 hours of firearms classroom retraining or practical exercises, plus required range training and handgun requalification. The handgun qualification requires at least 75%. Firearms classroom instruction requires a separate written examination with at least 70% before range training; the applicable assessment arrangements depend on the school’s approved retraining format.
These courses follow different renewal schedules. Security officer in-service training is required once during each 24-month registration period. Firearms retraining is required annually and must be completed within the 90 days before the current firearms endorsement expires. Course dates must match the student’s individual deadlines.
Our focus is a strong foundation: understanding your responsibilities, asking good questions, and learning in a supportive environment.

Bring a valid government-issued photo ID, your DCJS registration and firearms-endorsement information, both expiration dates, and a pen and notebook.
For the range, bring the handgun for which you need qualification, a belt with a strong-side directional-draw holster, and three magazines or two speed loaders, as appropriate. DCJS’s standard handgun range-equipment list specifies 100 rounds of ammunition; confirm any additional ammunition requirement with the school.
Bring eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and clothing suitable for the range conditions. Follow the instructor’s firearm check-in instructions. Live ammunition must not enter the classroom firearms-training environment.
Intended for security officers who need the included in-service training and are eligible to renew an existing handgun firearms endorsement. This is not an initial armed-security training package.
For ordinary firearms-endorsement renewal, schedule 07R within the 90-day period before your endorsement expires. Contact the school before enrolling if the endorsement has expired or that training window was missed; the regulation requires entry-level training when the retraining window is missed.
Students must remain legally eligible to possess firearms and ammunition. This package does not replace advanced handgun retraining required for personal protection specialists or additional retraining applicable to other on-duty firearms.
Confirm your date, location, and preparation instructions with the training team before attending.
