The Armed Security Upgrade is designed for students who have already satisfied the Security Officer Core Subjects requirement and are preparing to move into armed security work in Virginia. This package combines arrest-authority instruction with entry-level security officer handgun training. 01E is not included in this package. The complete armed security officer training requirement includes 01E, 05E, and 75E, with additional firearms training when applicable.
05E — Armed Security Officer Arrest Authority: 8 hours of instruction. Covers arrest powers, policies, and procedures. A written examination is required with a minimum passing score of 70%. No range qualification is required for 05E. Examination time and any required practical exercises are additional to the instructional hours.
75E — Security Officer Handgun: 24 hours of instruction. Covers handgun handling, safety, maintenance, marksmanship fundamentals, use of force, liability, judgmental decision-making, and related firearms subjects. A written examination requires at least 70% before range training. Handgun range qualification requires at least 75%. Examination time, required practical exercises, and range qualification are additional to the instructional hours.
Our focus is a strong foundation: understanding your responsibilities, asking good questions, and learning in a supportive environment.

Bring a valid government-issued photo ID, your DCJS registration information if already registered, proof of previous 01E training or other documentation requested for review, and a pen and notebook.
For the range portion, bring a handgun, a belt with a strong-side directional-draw holster, and three magazines or two speed loaders, as appropriate. DCJS’s standard range-equipment list specifies 100 rounds of ammunition; confirm whether the school requires additional ammunition.
Bring eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and clothing appropriate for the range conditions. Confirm equipment approval and any loan arrangements before class. Live ammunition must not enter the classroom firearms-training environment.
This package is intended for students whose 01E requirement has already been satisfied. Provide your training and registration records for review before enrolling. Students who still need 01E should select the Complete Armed Security Path instead.
Students must meet the applicable DCJS registration requirements and be legally eligible to possess the firearms and ammunition used in training. DCJS registration applicants must be at least 18 years old and be a United States citizen or legal resident alien.
Confirm your date, location, and preparation instructions with the training team before attending.
