Provided by Virginia Tactical Shooting Academy
Armed Security Officer Arrest Authority covers the arrest powers, policies, and procedures relevant to registered armed security officers in Virginia. Students study the legal scope and limitations of that authority and the responsibilities associated with its exercise.
This course is one component of Virginia’s armed security-officer entry-level training requirements. It does not provide handgun qualification, authorize concealed carry, or grant the general powers of a police officer or conservator of the peace.
8 hours of instruction, plus time for the written examination and any required practical exercises.
Written examination: Required — 70% minimum passing score. Applicable practical exercises must also be passed.
Range qualification: Not part of 05E. Handgun training and qualification are addressed through the separate firearms course.
Our focus is a strong foundation: understanding your responsibilities, asking good questions, and learning in a supportive environment.
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID, a pen and notebook, your DCJS registration number if already assigned, and any previous training-completion documents requested by the school. A firearm and ammunition are not needed for this course. Bring additional training equipment only when specifically directed by the instructor.
Intended for students completing Virginia armed security-officer entry-level training. Students must also satisfy the other training and registration requirements applicable to that category. The state’s armed-security training standard requires 01E, 05E, and 75E. Contact the school before enrolling to confirm your training history and required course sequence.
